Does My Car Need an MOT Test?
All cars over 3 years old will need to be submitted for an annual test. If you have a brand new car, you will need to submit it for testing when it reaches 3 years old.
Any car older than 40 years will not require an annual test. We always advise having older cars serviced at least once a year to ensure they are safe to drive and roadworthy.
When Is My MOT is Due?
If you are unsure when your test is due, you can check when your test is due by entering your vehicle registration number into the government website. To preserve the current MOT certificate, the soonest you can have your vehicle retested is 30 days before the due date.
What is Checked During an MOT?
The test involves a thorough inspection of your vehicle. The checks include but are not limited to the following:
- Braking system
- Electrical wiring and battery condition
- Registration plates
- Body and vehicle structure
- Exhaust emissions
- Fuel system
- Seat belts
- Steering and suspension
- Wheels and tyres
- Washers and wipers
What Happens if My Car Fails?
If your car fails the test we will advise what work needs to be done in order to pass the test. We can repair your vehicle and retest it for free within 10 days.
The MOT classification required will depend on the type of vehicle. We offer class 1, 2, 4, 5 & 7 MOTs.
